At Windsor Farmers’ Market in St Leonard’s Road on Saturday 1st October (9am to 1pm), stall holders will be treating customers to a variety of tastings, from meats and seasonal fruit and vegetables, to cheeses, eggs and breads and pastries. Seasonal foods will include potatoes, carrots, sweet corn, cauliflower, squashes and of course apples, pears and plums. This can all be washed down with a taste of English wine or cider (or apple juice if it’s too early in the morning for anything stronger!). Windsor Farmers’ Market co-ordinator Helen Phillips commented: ‘It’s harvest time, and in this season of plenty we urge the public to ‘ban the bland’ and go out to discover foods with real flavour’. “ Farmers’ Markets sell local foods that taste great because they are produced with care and expertise. They are fresh because they have not travelled long distances and been stored for long periods. You can enjoy the friendly atmosphere, taste the products and talk directly to the people who produced them.” The Month of Taste will also be celebrated at Farmers’ Markets in Maidenhead on Sunday 9th October, Ascot on Sunday 16th October, and Eton on Friday 21st October.
