Windsor Farmers’ Market is now a permanent fixture on the first Saturday of every month in St Leonard’s Road. Councillors at the Cabinet meeting of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council on 25 August gave the market the seal of approval. Market co-ordinator Diane Harker was delighted. “This is great news for Windsor residents who have told us how much they appreciate the quality of food and produce available at the markets. We’re very grateful to the councillors and Windsor & Eton Town Partnership for their support during the trial period. “At the next market on Saturday 3 September we’ll have a champagne celebration with Fonthill Glebe sparkling wine – so I hope all our regular and new customers will come along for a taste and a toast.” The popular market has been held every month since March this year. Pedestrian counts show that on market days there are 115% more visitors in the area than on non-market days and a recent consultation with stallholders, local businesses and residents showed that 95% of respondents back the market and want to see it continue. Customer research carried out at the July market showed that 84% of customers come for the quality of the food, and 81% want to support local producers. The most popular produce is fruit and vegetables. Sharing second place in popularity are meat and eggs, and bread and pastries.
